Buckley Jeff A Wished-for Song

The first time I met Jeff Buckley Iwas on a photo assignment for a New York-based publication called Paper magazine.It was for a small article and I hadn't heard of the musican,but the editor there,David,thought I might be inerested in the job,I accepted.On the day of the shoot,I went to Jeff's apartment,and with the help of my fried Eric (assistant for the day) we dragged my gear up to his fourth-floor walk-up.While I set up the lights and figured out some angles the guys started talking musical shop,and Eric made himself comfortable browsing though Jeff's CD and tape collection.I coerced Jeff into the other room and we took some shots in his top hat and trademark flannel shirt,then to the hallway and roof for a finale NY skyline shot.Even from that frist shoot I felt a definite sense of play and a willingness on the part of Jeff to be open  to experimentation that made photograhing him an adventure.Of course,he was always checking you out,giving you that Scorpio scan thang,but when we were doing the actual creative work he was amazingly accessible and present.Connected
