Contemporary Voices: Works from The UBS Art Collection presents paintings, sculpture, drawings, and photographs by a broad range of American and European artists, from first-generation Abstract Expressionists to young artists who have emerged within the last decade. The great majority of these artists are active today, and this selection of their work, in both its variety and its particular areas of concentration, provides an expectional window into the artmaking of the last third of the twentieth century and on into the present. What is today The UBS Art Collection was founded in the late 1960s by Donald B. Marron, former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the financial-services firm Paine Weber; when that company merged with UBS in 2000, their art collection merged as well. Fortyfour works from The UBS Art Collection are now promised gifts to The Museum of Modern Art. Ann Temkin, Curator in the Departement of Painting and Sculpture at the Museum, contributes an introductory overview to the book, as well as interviews with eleven of the artists.
