Sailors brought their customs with them from some 60 different countries, So you found opium dens and gambling joints, speakeasies and brothels, knife fights and gun wars. Men went to sleep in a Tiger Bay pub - to awake in some scummy focsle on their way to Valpraiso. But they also built mosques and churches and opened missions. Here we had the original League of Nations, a pulsating place, a melting pot, a Rainbow Nation dependent on those vast docks down the road which is where it all began...This is the story of this remarkable corner of the world.
