Beschreibung

English and Hebrew. Written in Arabic in 11th-century Spain,Chovoth ha Levavoth has been described as perhaps the noblest work of post-Talmudic literature on Jewish ethics. While Tabbeinu Bachya ibn Paquda wa undoubtedky familiar with classica Arabic philosophy, this work is no dry, formal treatise for the philosopher, nor a learned, abstruse tract for the academic man of knowledge. In earnestness and honesty, the author sets out not to refute heretics, write apologetics,or discover new truths, but merely to clarify the truth of the Torah's way of faith for the ordinary intelligent, reader in searchof guidance and instruction of sterling, lasting worth. The standard Herbrew text (prepared by R.Judah ibn Ribbon in the 12th century)is printed in entirety, with the sound English translation of Moses Hyamson,on facing pages.
